His work is instantly recognisable and he can be counted as being among the very first generation to pioneer the idea of including very rough sketchbook drawing in finished pieces of art. His pages in the first Scrawl book, published when he was virtually an unknown, to this day stand up to the work of some of the more illustrious names in that publication and like Mr Jago and Will he has earned the right to be talked about in the same breath as the artists who initially inspired him. Steff uses a combination of stencil and freehand painting to create his images, this makes it easy for him to accurately replicate his designs and at the same time keep them fresh with whatever colours, shapes and expressions of movement he favours at the time.
